Potential etymologies include a derivation from Old Dutch Hadurik (a personal name), a derivation from a collectivised form of hederik (“charlock (Rhamphospermum arvense, syns. Sinapis arvensis, etc.)”) and a compound derivation from heide (“heath, heathland”) and Middle Dutch reke (“boundary”).
