  1. (uncommon, proscribed) Synonym of Hoosier (“a native or inhabitant of Indiana”).
    • 1958, Olin Dee Morrison, Indiana, Hoosier State, volume 4, page 66:
      Indianans thought of it as a war far away in which they could not become involved.

Usage notes

  • This term is not used by natives of Indiana; Hoosier is the only term used in the state. Additionally, since 2016, according to the United States Government Publishing Office Style Manual, the term Hoosier must be used in all official government documents to refer to natives or residents of Indiana.[1]
