Etymology

First attested as Kibbelgaarn in 1867. Compound of Dutch Low Saxon kibbel (squabble, fight) and gaarn (garden). The settlement is located in an area which was the subject of multiple boundary disputes. Compare Cabauw, Hebrecht, Kijfhoek, Kijfwaard, Kibbelveen, Krakeel, Krakeelpolder, Schellach and Strijkviertel.
