Etymology

From Leavitt +‎ -s- +‎ -burg. Named for the Leavitt family of Suffield, Connecticut, a prominent early mercantile New England family originally from Hingham, Massachusetts. Thaddeus Leavitt was one of the eight original purchasers of the Western Reserve lands from the state of Connecticut.
