First attested as lisiduna in 777. Etymology uncertain. One hypothesis proposes a derivation from Proto-Germanic *lis (“furrow”) suffixed with the collectivising suffix *-iþi; this etymology, however, runs into phonological difficulties. Compare Huisduinen, Leesten, Lieshout, Lisse, Loosduinen, Lesdain and Lesdins.
