Etymology
From Paleo-Hispanic, from Gallaecian Limia, the Limia river, and the relational suffix *-ko-, meaning "the people of the Limia". The name Limia is from Proto-Celtic *līmo- ("flood; marsh", compare Welsh llif, "flow; stream; flood"), from Proto-Indo-European *léymō (“lake”).
