  • (Baarle-Nassau) First attested as den hove te loeven in 1333. Derived from Middle Dutch love (lover, awning, shed), a term cognate with Old Saxon lovia (wooden platform) and Old High German louba (tents, huts made out of branches). Compare Lobith and Loven.
  • (Bergeijk) First attested as Lovern in 1838–1857. Derived from Middle Dutch love (lover, awning, shed), from Old Dutch *louva, from Proto-West Germanic *laubijā (awning), a term cognate with Old Saxon lovia (wooden platform) and Old High German louba (tents, huts made out of branches).
