    • 1980, AA Book of British Villages, Drive Publications Ltd, page 312, about Penmachno:
      An old bridge over the River Machno links the two parts of the village, swinging the narrow road right and left before it climbs on to a lonely, lake-dappled expanse of windswept moorland, where it climbs to nearly 1,600 ft.
