From mega- (mega-, large, from Ancient Greek μέγας (mégas)) +‎ -cephala (head, from Ancient Greek κεφᾰλή (kephălḗ)). Possibly preceded by translingual megacephalus and New Latin megacephalus (large-headed; megacephalous, megacephalic).
