Etymology
- (Drenthe) First attested as oldenmolen in 1498. Compound of oud (“old”) and molen (“mill”). Named after a former water mill. See also Dutch Low Saxon Olmeul.
- (Noord-Brabant) First attested as Oude Molen in 1838-1857. Compound of oud (“old”) and molen (“mill”). Named after a former windmill which was torn down in 1715. It was replaced by a new windmill, which also inspired the name of nearby Nieuwemolen.
