Paracymus
Translingual
Etymology
From para- (“around”) + Ancient Greek κῦμᾰ (kûmă, “wave; billow; flood”) + -us, interpretable as "near [the] wave[s]," due to the beetles' hydrophilous nature. Only partially cognate to, not directly derived from, translingual Cymus; a genus of lygaeoids.
Coined by U.S. entomologist James Livingston Thomson in 1867.
