Etymology

After the counter-castle Schloss Petershagen named in honour of biblical Saint Peter and combination of weakly inflected Hag (fence, enclosure of bushes or walls), as the hill it was erected upon, and chosen as a residence of the Bishop of Minden in 1305 or 1306, before which the locality was called Hockeleve, Hockeleven, Hockeln, first mentioned in 784 as Huculbi, Huculvi.
