Prompto Soccorro m (plural Promptos Soccorros)
- Pre-reform spelling (used until 1943 in Brazil and 1911 in Portugal) of pronto-socorro.
- 1940 January 13, “Fingiu que queria suicidar-se [She pretended she wanted to commit suicide]”, in A Tribuna, volume XLVI, number 250, Santos, page 9:
- Como ninguem tivesse levado a sério as palavras de Francina, passou esta a gritar por soccorro e fez tanto barulho que foi solicitado ocomparecimento[sic] da ambulancia do Prompto Soccorro e da policia.
- Since no one took Francina’s words seriously, she began to scream for help and made so much noise that the emergency room’s ambulance and the police were called.
Usage notes
Brazil’s 1943 orthographic reform standardized the spelling as pronto-socorro, hyphenated and lowercase, but this was not always followed.
