Etymology
According to some sources, from *витѧѕь (*vitędzĭ, “knight, hero”) + миръ (mirŭ, “world, peace”). [1] The last part is probably from Proto-Slavic *-měrъ changed by folk etymology into миръ (mirŭ, “peace”) like Володимѣръ (Volodiměrŭ).
