This Proto-Bodish entry contains reconstructed terms and roots. As such, the term(s) in this entry are not directly attested, but are hypothesized to have existed based on comparative evidence.

Proto-Bodish

Etymology

Reduplication of *ane, an irregular development of Proto-Sino-Tibetan *nij (aunt).

Noun

*nene

  1. aunt (father's sister, or maternal uncle's wife)

Reconstruction notes

Absent in Bodt (2023). But since Bumthang attests multiple forms with the characteristic *e > *i shift in inherited vocabulary, there must have been a Proto-Bodish ancestral form of this word.
