Proto-Bodish

Etymology

(This etymology is missing or incomplete. Please add to it, or discuss it at the Etymology scriptorium.)

There is another nigh-identical Bodish adjective, but with an unpalatalized initial, which gave rise to Tibetan ཐུང (thung, short).

Jacques further sees a potential link between this word and Tibetan སྨྱུང (smyung, to reduce) and ཉུང (nyung, little),[1] the latter being from *ŋʲuŋ.

Adjective

*tʰʲuŋ[2]

  1. small
  2. short
