Proto-Cushitic

Etymology

The semantics of 'star' and 'maggot, worm' suggest an original meaning of 'a small, white, pulsating thing',[1] which may derive from Proto-Cushitic *ʕaz- (white) + *-k (diminutive suffix), with devoicing on the initial consonant.

Root

*ħVzk-

  1. star
