Etymology

Probably from Proto-Uralic *puďa-w- (to break off) ( +‎ *-t'ak), whence also Proto-Samic *poδōtēk (to break), Udmurt [script needed] (piĺ-), Eastern Mari [script needed] (puδešta-).[1]
