Reconstruction:Proto-Germanic/stahlą
Proto-Germanic
Etymology
From *stahlaz, *stahalaz (“firm, fast”), from Proto-Indo-European *stek- (“to be firm, stand fast”). Cognate with Old Prussian pannu-staclan (“fire-striker”); an additional connection to Avestan 𐬯𐬙𐬀𐬑𐬭𐬀 (staxra, “strong”) is tenuous.[1]
