Etymology

From Proto-Indo-European *swelH- (to burn). Cognate with Lithuanian svi̇̀lti (to singe), Latvian svals (vapor, smoke), Ancient Greek εἵλη (heílē, warmth of the sun), and possibly Old Armenian նքողիմ (nkʻołim, to be parched, dried, tired, unwell).[1]
