Proto-Italic
Etymology
From earlier *-ējō, from Proto-Indo-European *-éh₁yeti in which the first person singular ended in *-éh₁yoh₂.
Suffix
*-ēō
- Forms stative verbs, indicating a state of being.
Inflection
Stative verbs with this suffix did not originally have any past participles. Occasionally participles in *-etos have been generated by analogy to causative/iterative verbs in *-eō (e.g. *taketos > Latin tacitus, Umbrian 𐌕𐌀𐌜𐌄𐌆 (taçez)).
