While this word regularly evolved into Karo Batak kuning (“turmeric”), the relationship between this word and Malay kuning remain unclear. It is possible that Malay might have borrowed this word from Karo Batak, or emerged from rebracketing of *kamuniŋ (“Murraya, spp.”).[1]
