Proto-Naish

Etymology

Li provides two exclusive sets of comparisons that cannot be linked to each other:

  • From Proto-Sino-Tibetan *jaŋ, cognate to Japhug qaʑo. This fits the initial /j/ better and better accounts for the /o/ in Narua. Lidz also follows this derivation.
  • Li also compares Tibetan ལུག (lug), but it is incompatible with any other comparandum.

Noun

*jaɣ

  1. sheep

Reconstruction notes

Li reports a vowel /u/ in Na, but Lexica's dictionary actually has /o/.

Descendants
