Proto-Naish

Etymology

A compound of *pal (frog). Li compares the second element to Tibetan ལྕོང (lcong, tadpole).

Noun

*pal kwe

  1. tadpole

Reconstruction notes

  • Note that for some reason, there is a discrepancy in transcribing the second syllable in Na; the Lexica dictionary has /ɯ/ as the second vowel in Na, but Li has /i/.
  • Li does not record the basic form beji in Na, instead recording the further compound beji bemi. The Lexika dictionary confirms that simple beji in fact exists.
