Proto-Naish

Etymology

Li compares Tibetan འཐུང ('thung, to drink).

Verb

*tʰi

  1. to drink
    Synonym: *sru

Reconstruction notes

  • Li reconstructs a pre-initial *C1 to account for Malimasa /ʂv̩/; but this Malimasa word is better derived from a different Proto-Naish etymon *sru, which in turn is ultimately from Proto-Sino-Tibetan *srəwk (to suck, drink).

Descendants

  • Naxi: teeq
  • Narua: teeq
