Etymology

Likely from Proto-Uralic *wole-.[1] The loss of initial *w- is unexpected, but a similar development is also seen in *ü- (to drag, pull) (← Proto-Uralic *wixe-) and possibly *i- (to take) (? ← Proto-Uralic *wexe-).
