Proto-Sino-Tibetan
Reconstruction
- Proto-Sino-Tibetan: *ljum (Coblin, 1986)
- Proto-Tibeto-Burman:
- *lum (Benedict, 1972)
- *s-lum ⪤ *lim (Matisoff, 2003)
- *s-l(u/i)m (STEDT)
- Proto-Tibeto-Burman:
Chinese 燖 / 𬊈 (“to warm up”) is usually cited as 尋 / 寻 in Sino-Tibetan etymological literature. Schuessler (2007), Hill (2019), Baxter & Sagart, and STEDT all do this. In fact, Baxter & Sagart's reconstruction of *sə-l[ə]m is nominally assigned to 尋 / 寻. However, actual attestations of 尋 / 寻 with the meaning of 燖 / 𬊈 have not been substantiated.
Verb
*lum
- to be warm
