Etymology
From *xulu- + *-kī. The root *xulu- is related to squarrels, as preserved in Evenki улумӣмӣ (ulumīmī, “to hunt squirrels”) which is proposed and reconstructed as *xölömöö- by Janhunen.[2]
*-kī possibly reflects a suffix denoting nouns related to animals; compare *xerekī (“frog”), *turākī (“crow, rook”), *tōkī (“elk”), *torakī (“boar”), *sulakī (“fox”) and etc...
