Etymology

From *xulu- +‎ *-kī. The root *xulu- is related to squarrels, as preserved in Evenki улумӣмӣ (ulumīmī, to hunt squirrels) which is proposed and reconstructed as *xölömöö- by Janhunen.[2]

*-kī possibly reflects a suffix denoting nouns related to animals; compare *xerekī (frog), *turākī (crow, rook), *tōkī (elk), *torakī (boar), *sulakī (fox) and etc...

Noun

*xulukī
