Etymology

From +‎ *-me +‎ *-lig (see more at Turkish -meli). However, the existence of the Chuvash cognate, may precede the Turkish derivation from -me +‎ -li.[1]

  1. Suffix creating necessitative.
    *seb- (to love) + ‎*-melig → ‎*sebmelig ((s/he) should love)
