Proto-Turkic

Etymology

A regional term. It is not attested in Old Turkic, Old Uyghur,[1] and Kashgarî's dictionary. The Western Yugur word might be a borrowing from Uyghur.

Likely connected to Proto-Mongolic *gulad (to fall), Manchu [script needed] (γula-, to fall off a cliff), though the direction of borrowing is uncertain.
