From Proto-Germanic *glastaz, from pre-Proto-Germanic *gʰləs-tó-s[1] (quasi-Proto-Indo-European *ǵʰlh̥₁s-tó-s), from *glēsaną (“to shine”), from Proto-Indo-European *ǵʰleh₁- (“to shine, glow”).
