Etymology
Composed of *dej (“eye”) + *-ç (singulative suffix).
Tentatively compared to Proto-Na-Dene *teˑ (“eye”) and Proto-Athabaskan *-teˑʔ, *-taˑʔ (“eye”), which are Vajda (2022)'s own reconstructions based on Gwichʼin and Tāłtān forms.
