Reptiliomorpha

Etymology
Proper noun
Reptiliomorpha
- A taxonomic clade within the superclass Tetrapoda – reptile-like amphibians, which gave rise to the amniotes in the Carboniferous.
Usage notes
There is massive disagreement over what species ou8tside the Amniota are in this clade. The interpretation of the branch-based definitions depend on the author's beliefs as to how non-amniote tetrapods are related to amniotes and modern amphibians, and the history is still (2024) unresolved, with diametrically opposed hypotheses both having significant support.
