Taishanese

1. A Yue Chinese lect spoken in the greater Taishan area of Guangdong Province, China.

Taishanese (not comparable)

1. Pertaining to the area of greater Taishan of Guangdong Province, China; its people; their descendants; the main dialect of the region.

Taishanese pl (plural only)

1. (chiefly in the plural) A person who speaks the dialect of Taishanese.
2. (chiefly in the plural) A person from the area; or descended from people of the area of greater Taishan in Guangdong Province, China.

• As with other terms for people formed with -ese, the countable singular noun in reference to a person (as in "I am a Taishanese", "writing about Taishanese cuisine as a Taishanese") is uncommon and often taken as grammatically incorrect. In its place, the adjective is used, by itself (as in "I am Taishanese") or before a noun like person, man, or woman ("writing about Taishanese cuisine as a Taishanese person").
