Etymology

Probably borrowed from Semai Temiir, Temèèr (Temiar), or a cognate such as Lanoh Təmyɛl (Temiar), itself probably from a Malayo-Polynesian term cognate to Javanese tambér, Madurese tambir and Sundanese tambir (all "to stick to the edge"); possibly compare Austroasiatic terms such as Bulo Stieng bər (rim), Laven bi̤ər (rim), Lawi tapiər (rim) (Proto-Bahnaric *ɓər), Nyah Kur [script needed] (bíər, edge of soft-shelled turtle carapace), and Khasi tmier (edge).
