Borrowed from Ancient Greek θηρίδιον (thērídion, beastling, critter); diminutive of Ancient Greek θήρ (thḗr, beast). From the roots of Proto-Hellenic *kʷʰḗr and Proto-Indo-European *ǵʰwer- (wild; feral). Doublet of Theridium.
