Winthagen
Dutch
Etymology
First attested as den hove te winthagen in 1386. Potentially derived from windhaag (“hedge meant do defend a building against gusts of wind”). However, it is possible that the toponym is a compound of Middle Dutch Windo (a personal name) or Wijnand and haag (“fence, enclosed area, homestead”). Compare Hilleshagen, Wolfhaag and Wolfhagen.
