xeno- +‎ -phora

Coined in 1807 by Gotthelf Fischer von Waldheim from ξένος (xénos, strange/foreign or stranger/foreigner/guest) + φορά (phorá, carrying or burden): they attach foreign objects to their shells, including other shells.
