Etymology
Borrowed from Spanish alfonsino (“Alfonsine”), in honor of Alfonso XII, king of Spain from 1874–1885. The haircut was later known as the “Amadeo cut” or the “Aguinaldo cut”, after Amadeo I of Spain and Emilio Aguinaldo respectively.
