Borrowed from Latin archetypum, from Ancient Greek ἀρχέτυπον (arkhétupon, “pattern, model”), from ἀρχέτυπος (arkhétupos, “first-molded”), from ἀρχή (arkhḗ, “beginning, origin”) + τύπος (túpos, “model, mark, impression”).
