Etymology
From Arabic بَنِي (banī, “sons of”) + oui oui, thus roughly “the tribe of yes-yes”. Originally referred disparagingly to the Muslim advisers employed by the French in colonial northern Africa, many of whom were servile and therefore ineffective.
