Northern Kurdish

Etymology

Compare Persian بیـ (bê-). The expected development of Middle Iranic *ebê- would have been *vê- in modern Northern Kurdish (as in *ebaj > vajî, ve-, *eber > wer- etc.), and is recorded as such in Matenadaran MS 7117 (1442). However this variant was eventually displaced, probably under Persian influence.
