Etymology
From Proto-Albanian *balbā + -ët, from Proto-Indo-European *balb-, *balbal- (“barbaric speech”), of onomatopoeic origin. Cognate to Ancient Greek βαβάζω (babázō, “chats, talks indistinctly”), Latin balbūtiō (“to stammer, stutter”), Lithuanian blebénti (“babble”). Cf. also Romanian bâlbâi.
