blândă
Romanian
Alternative forms
- blîndă — 1953–1993 spelling
Etymology
Probably from the adjective blând (as in boală blândă (“mild illness/disease/condition”) or alternatively from Old Church Slavonic блѫдъ (blǫdŭ), in which case it would be a doublet of bolând, from Hungarian. Cf. Carpathian Rusyn блында (blŷnda), Serbo-Croatian blanda, Bulgarian блънда (blǎnda), which are often thought to derive from Romanian. Compare also the Aromanian cognate blãndã.
Noun
blândă f (plural blânde)
- (regional) hives, urticaria, nettle-rash
- Synonym: urticarie
