- A dusky grouse, a bird of species (Dendragapus obscurus), once thought to inhabit both the Rocky Mountains and the Pacific coastal ranges of western North America, originally thought to be the same species as the now-segregate species Dendragapus fuliginosus (sooty grouse), of the Pacific Coast ranges.
