Etymology
From Belchior, the owner of the first thrift-shop in Rio de Janeiro in the nineteenth century.[1] The name is of Hebrew origin.[2]
The reading of ⟨ch⟩ as /ʃ/ seems to be a spelling pronunciation, since the proper name is still pronounced with a /k/.
