Borrowed from Middle French blond m, from Old French blond, blont, Medieval Latin blondus, from Frankish *blund (“a mixed color between golden and light-brown”), from Proto-Germanic *blundaz (“mixed, blinding”), from Proto-Indo-European *bʰlendʰ- (“to become turbid, see badly, go blind”).
