From Bruce +‎ -ite, after its discoverer, American mineralogist Archibald Bruce (1777–1818).

brucite (plural brucites)

  1. (mineralogy) A mineral form of magnesium hydroxide, Mg(OH)2, often found in thin foliated plates, but may be fibrous (see nemalite), of a white or greenish color and vitreous to pearly luster.
