Compound of buto (“scrotum”) + kambing (“goat”), calque of Malay pelir kambing (literally “goat testicle”). Cognate Musi peler kambing, Tausug pali kambing, Maguindanao plil, Javanese ꦏꦺꦴꦤ꧀ꦛꦺꦴꦭ꧀ꦏꦩ꧀ꦧꦶꦁ (kontholkambing).
