Inherited from Proto-Athabaskan *tšʳədžʳ (“dry wood, firewood”)[1]. Cognate with Western Apache chizh, Chipewyan tsez, Beaver chvch, Carrier tsez, Sekani tsvz, Ahtna tsets.
Distantly cognate with Ket өксь m (ōksʲ, “tree; stick, twig”).
